TRANS DAY 2022

The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion team @Masters & Co assist us to attend ethically and lawfully to people of all ages, religion, sexuality, ethnicity, gender and ability. Our Ethical guidelines are adapted from the Australian Human Rights Commission (2009).

Today, our team have challenged us to remain cognisant of our obligations when working with sex and/or gender diverse people. Trans and gender diverse people may face a range of extra challenges to identity, stigma, hostility, ridicule or discrimination when living in a society that often marginalises their experiences. Trans and gender diverse people may seek mental healthcare to assist in maximising their overall psychological wellbeing, quality of life, and self-fulfilment. By finding comfort and affirmation, an individual is better able to participate and thrive in all aspects of life.

Psychologists must take reasonable steps to ensure treatment is fair and in accordance with the rights and entitlements of trans and gender diverse people. This means we care to be respectful, affirming, professional, non discriminatory, inclusive, competent, sensitive, and responsive - including tuning in to the voices of transgender and gender diverse people.

So, did you know that today is the Trans Day of Visibility? It is a day of pride and celebration for gender diverse identity, achievements, and community. TDOV is about reclaiming space and expression in education, healthcare, and community, and advocating for a safe and affirming society.

At Masters & Co, we want to provide spaces that are authentic, safe and redemptive for people who have been marginalised. We work from an evidence-based, affirming framework and seek to humbly attend to ongoing learning in this space.
