TACKLING ANXIETY IN KIDS

Anxiety is a normal part of life and can affect anyone, including children. But as parents and carers, it's sometimes hard to know the difference between normal worries and something more serious. In this Masterclass you will learn some strategies to help children cope; gain understanding for their biological development and teach you some basic skills to manage anxiety in children.

PARENTING BIG EMOTIONS IN PRIMARY AGED KIDS

None of us were born knowing how to control big emotions and our children take their cues from their caregivers, friends and family. The confrontation of a meltdown, a tantrum or outburst, and then the more subtle worries that escalate out of control can keep caregivers on their toes. Managing distress and the accompanying withdrawal and sadness in the one that bottles things up can also be a challenge.

Our job as adults is to nurture our child’s ability to manage emotional responses in healthy, adaptive ways. The ability to ‘self regulate’ is the skill of learning to acknowledge, manage and tolerate powerful emotional states so that one has the emotional resources to maintain healthy friendships, focus and fun! This masterclass will inform participants of the latest science on how self regulation develops, and what you can do to help a child learn how to self regulate.

NURTURING TEENS

Knowing how to nurture and respond to teens with the balance of support and freedom can be a delicate thing. This session provides an introduction to key areas of concern when attending to teenagers and their wellbeing with focuses on:

  • Developmental Cues: what's going on for them Biologically & Psychologically
  • Balancing Support & Freedom
  • Common Challenges
  • Unpack the dynamics of mental health and grow your understanding of how best to care for our young people.

RESILIENCE IN OLDER ADULTS

As we age, our need for social and emotional wellbeing become innately necessary to our mental health. We aim to stay sharp and aware, but our efforts for self care can become waylaid by family, health, finances, etc.

How we stay mentally healthy as we get older can be challenging. Our hope if you attend this masterclass is to bring understanding to the framework for mental health core support and how to access professional care as well as help you identify what can cause a mental health issue; offering you tools for maintaining a mentally healthy lifestyle.
