Welcome to myfamily@masters…

We know, as parents and caregivers, we want our children to be able to go out into the world and be their best selves. We want them to be able to handle the demands of everyday life and for them to be “good” people. We want them to succeed, be safe, kind, caring and helpful. We want all these good things for them, and yet, in the day-to-day grind of life, it may seem like these things just aren’t happening. You’ve likely enquired about myfamily@masters because the disconnect between what you want for your child, and what is actually going on for them has become complicated. Your family life may seem full of struggle, stress, and negativity leaving you worried, fed up or overwhelmed. This is where we may be able to assist!

We welcome you to journey with us as we seek to empower and encourage families. We want to partner with you as you partner with your child. We want to show you a way forward that establishes connection, repairs ruptures, and brings hope. We aim to help you understand your child, be aware of their developmental capacity and their emotional needs. We seek to give you bite sized learning to help you solve problems, and provide practical strategies for how to connect with your child and develop a long-term non-adversarial relationship. Instead of goals that peg you ‘against your child’, we want to flip the script so that you and your child can unite against ‘the problems’.

Once you join the program you will receive a login code to access workbooks, resources and video tutorials to compliment the psychology sessions.

myfamily@masters may challenge your views on many things. The ideas and strategies in this program and accompanying therapy may seem at odds with other things you’ve seen or learned; or just be vastly different from how you were raised. We know you've likely tried lots of things already and may be unsure of the way forward. We’ve chosen this path because we believe in evidenced-based, developmentally attune, compassionate approaches that foster connection and collaboration in families. Our hope is that you will experience a paradoxical shift when trying this approach, We want to show you what we have learned to feel less stuck, less overwhelmed, and more connected with our kids. The goal is to have more energy for connection, and to see the environment in your home shift to collaboration and optimism. Stick with it, we are here for you along the way.

ABOUT THE CPS MODEL & DR ROSS GREENE

myfamily@masters was developed in liaison with the team at Masters Psychology in response to attending to hundreds of families with children aged between 4-14 since 2014. Additionally, in 2021, the Mental Health Commission released a report on The National Children’s Mental Health & Wellbeing Strategy outlining the current status of child mental health services in Australia and recommended priority areas of reform. As a result, we have chosen to re-design how we offer care to kids and families to benefit early intervention and treatment efficiency. Utilising the latest research, feedback from consumers, dedicated clinicians and kids, we found that a model called the Collaborative & Proactive Solutions Model (CPS), developed by Dr Ross Greene was yielding better gains in kids and families.

The CPS model is an evidence based, psycho-social treatment model with tools embedded to assist caregivers and children. It falls under the broad umbrella of cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) and fits within what has been referred to as the third wave of CBT approaches. CPS can also be considered a hybrid model drawing from multiple theoretical influences. The model emphasises that challenging behaviours occur under conditions in which the expectations being placed upon a child outstrip their skills, and the incompatibility is the resultant behaviour. myfamily@masters has utilised the theoretical underpinnings of CPS, and developed a model of service provision that incorporates this with approaches underpinned by developmental theory, relationship theory, attachment and family systems theory. myfamily@masters is a therapeutic guide (much like a roadmap) through the key tenets of treatment in a modality that represents a non punitive, non adversarial, trauma informed model of care. It facilitates a process where we can reflect and understand the experience of the child.
